Common goldfish don’t have much of an issue with hibernation, but fancy goldfish are much more delicate and may not survive the colder temperatures. When goldfish begin their dormancy period in colder temperatures, you have to avoid feeding them as it can harm the water quality. Having mild fluctuations in temperature based on the season can also help stimulate a natural climate for goldfish. This is a moderate water temperature that isn’t on either extreme ends. The ideal temperature to keep a goldfish tank is typically around room temperature (68-76 degrees F). What is the best water temperature range for goldfish? Common goldfish tend to be hardier, while fancies are a lot more delicate. While goldfish can definitely survive in cooler temperatures (60 degrees F), that doesn’t mean that it’s the optimal goldfish water temperature.
